Chase offers two great cards–the Sapphire and the Sapphire Preferred–with important differences, so we’ll talk about both of them here.
The Sapphire Card comes with a 10,000 point promotion, with unlimited 2x points on restaurants/fast food, 2x points on airfare and hotels through their Ultimate Rewards program, and 1x on everything else. You can redeem your points for pretty much anything, and there’s no annual fee.
The Preferred Sapphire Card comes with a 40,000 point promotion (wow!), all of the perks of the regular Sapphire card, plus 2x points on travel (flights, hotels, car rentals, etc.). And when you book flights or hotels through the Ultimate Rewards program, you’ll score 3x points. On top of that, you’ll get a 7% points “dividend” each year, and a 25% points dividend for travel that you redeem. The annual fee is waived the first year, and then it’s $95.
Chases’ “Travel More. Dine More. Enjoy More.” saying is not underrated. Since the Preferred Sapphire is the best bang for your buck, we’ll just highlight those benefits below.
As for as earning points goes, the Chase Sapphire Card comes out on top with true value in rewards.
